[QUOTE...FWIW, I think I'm pregnant and not too happy about the timing. But being 37 beggars can't be choosers. I'll know for sure in a few days. Throws a crimp in my job search, to be sure, though we've been trying for 2.5 years. .....

ALF - I hope so. You are right about the timing.2 years back would have been a nicer start time. But - knowing now means you know when you do job hunt. I was under the impression lots of places DO want people who will work 24 - 28 hrs a week the majority of the time, then add more hours periodically as needed. It is certainly true for my fields, and SW and engineering.
Since DH has a full bennies package, the flexibility you get part time means you have more time with a little one, maybe have baby with home help who picks up housework you do not have to do on top of work and baby care. Then you still have an adult life with DH, social and private. Sure would feel better than costly all day full time day care out of the home, and housework.
I know in Fed funded social work and elderly care, and some medical they have long term hiring of part timers to cover for leave of absence time that runs over 4 months. My sister did coverage for EPA in the field. People with long leaves often have half pay plus their benefits, and I know EPA and HUD, and Medicaid encourage paying a few hourly salary dollars more in lieu of costlier bennies, for 20 and 24 hour workers when filling in for transplant, CA treatment, or folks on over 4 month but not permanent disability.
Or job sharing with a similar legal mind raising a family?
Well, either way - hope you know for sure soon. Wish you the best, Wag
